PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Kirby was appointed to complete the mechanical and electrical scope of works for a new 48 MW Data Centre in Ireland. Completed across 12 phases, the project included the construction of administration offices, site services, fuel compound, MV switchgear, Data Halls 01 to 12 including generator compound, electrical rooms, fuel oil pipework, DAHU rooms and extract fans on the roof. Kirby was responsible for commissioning levels 1 to 3 on the project and assisted in level 4 and 5.

Kirby utilized advanced cutting edge digitalised engineering for the project, which was coordinated and modelled using BIM. Modules and brackets used on the project were produced at the Kirby Off-Site Manufacturing Facility in Portlaoise.

 

SCOPE OF WORK

Kirby was responsible for the mechanical and electrical scope of works.

The commissioning scope of works completed by Kirby included:

  • Coordination of OFCI and CFCI vendors.
  • Mechanical system flow and pressure balancing, flushing, and chlorination.
  • Full control of hazardous energies on site using authorised person office throughout energisation and commissioning stages.
  • Development and integration of commissioning schedules and plans.
  • Co-ordination of the commissioning implementation plan.
  • Full provision of as built and handover documentation including drawings, sequences of operation, operating, maintenance and emergency procedures.
  • Completed commissioning of over 726 nr. assets over several phases.
  • Assisted and implemented the load bank strategy for levels 3, 4 and 5.
  • Install of the load banking requirements to accommodate level 4 and 5 commissioning process.
  • Set up, control and co-ordination of load bank operations.
  • Assisted and implemented the level 1 – 5 Cx programme.
  • Co-ordination workshops with stakeholders and Kirby operation teams.
  • Teamwork development / communication during the commissioning process with key stakeholders.
  • Level 1-3 test script development and execution.
  • ESSW / MSSW compliance.
  • Commissioning site walks and execution with key stakeholders.
  • Completed the thermal imagining of all critical busbar distribution strings.
  • Systematic of commissioning handovers from commissioning to level 3 with assistance in level 4 and 5.

Installed equipment and plant items included LV Switchgear, Small Power Boards, Generators, MEDS, COPS, Transformers, PDCs, DAHUs, Extract Fans, UPS, Isolation Transformers, CRAC / Condensers, HRU, VRF Splits, Busbar and BMS.

The total project meterage included 400km of cable, 65km of containment, 9,500m of pipework and 1,900m² of ductwork
