Kirby rolls out Site Supervisor Safety Programme

Following Kirby’s participation in the CIF Site Supervisor Safety Programme (SSSP) working group and attaining the SSSP Tutor requirements, the first two-day course was delivered to Kirby and our Supply Chain Supervisors in Portlaoise by our in-house tutor, John Sullivan.

The Site Supervisor Safety Programme is a welcome initiative in the industry as it raises the level of safety awareness and management for Supervisors beyond that provided by the more basic courses and the Safe Pass programme. SSSP is set to become an industry requirement in the coming years. Kirby is proud to be leading the way in this area as one of 4 contractors to roll out the programme so far, once again demonstrating our commitment to provide a safe working environment for our employees and all those affected by our operations.

The course aims to increase the Site Supervisor’s awareness of the critical issues and safety responsibilities that a supervisor has by providing a foundation of health, safety, welfare & environmental issues and the legal responsibilities relevant to the work activities. It highlights the requirements to promote health and safety and to supervise effectively by showing leadership skills in setting people to work.

This programme is endorsed by the CIF Safety Committee and the Construction Safety Partnership Advisory Committee (CSPAC) as the standard training for all construction supervisors/foremen working on Irish sites.
Upon successful completion of the two-day programme each candidate is awarded a CIF Site Supervisor Safety Certificate (12 Structured CIRI CPD Points) and the Red CIF Site Safety Supervisor Card valid for 3 years.
