Kirby was appointed as the MEP contractor for a new production capacity expansion for GSK. This project was a combination of new build external areas and building extensions to existing production areas, all undertaken within a live production environment with ATEX/hazardous area zoning.
Our work-scope included the fabrication and installation of piping, ductwork and all associated electrical/instrumentation services. A highly significant element of this work involved the off-site M&E works associated with the 24m high solvent tower, its subsequent erection on site and final services hook-up. Our piping scope extended across all material grades with tie-ins to existing systems within the membrane production area in particular. This work, in addition to the hot/cold loop checking of all instruments took place within several major shut-down periods.
As lead MEP contractor, Kirby worked closely with both GSK and WSP to implement Business Information Modelling (BIM) to successfully integrate all elements of design across services and to ensure high quality installation.

Installation and alignment of all utility and process equipment including chillers, crystalliser, solvent tankage, ribbon blenders, filter dryers, kegging system, UF and RO CIP skids.
Total project meterage consisted of 15,000m of cable, 8,000m ofcontainment, 1,600 no. of instruments, 3,000 no. of loops, 3,900 no. of calibrations, 600m of impulse piping, 5,000 no. of I/O points, 3,500m of black utilities pipework, 120m plastic pipework, 250m of copper pipework, 1,500m of clean utilities pipework, 1,500m of product pipework and 2,500m2 of ductwork.
